About

MoonDogs is a Germany-based documentary production company founded by WME-represented, award-winning directors Marcel Mettelsiefen and Juan Camilo Cruz. We create high-end, access-driven documentaries rooted in character and real-world stakes. Our work operates on the frontlines — where urgency, risk, and human experience intersect. Blending journalistic access with cinematic storytelling, MoonDogs delivers films that are immediate, immersive, and globally relevant.

Marcel Mettelsiefen is an Academy Award®-nominated, six-time BAFTA-winning, and four-time Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker. Transitioning from medicine and photojournalism to documentary filmmaking, he has spent two decades capturing deeply human stories in complex and volatile regions, including Syria, Afghanistan, and Latin America. His acclaimed directing credits include Syria: Children on the Frontline (2014), the Oscar®-nominated short Watani: My Homeland (2016), In Her Hands (2022), Children of the Taliban (2022), and the recent State of Rage (2024). He is also the founder of the Barcelona-based production company Duskwater Films.

Juan Camilo Cruz is a Colombian-German Emmy® and BAFTA®-winning director and producer. His directing credits include A Simple Soldier (2025), Lost in the Jungle (2025) alongside Oscar®-winning filmmakers Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, Venezuela: Country of Lost Children (2023), and an upcoming Netflix documentary series on boxing champion Canelo Álvarez. As a producer, his work includes Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend (2024), In Her Hands (2022), The Boy from Medellín (2020) and City of Ghosts (2017). He is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the founder of the Latin American documentary production company Demolition Films.
